Job Title: Medical Officer – General Surgery

Hold a tertiary qualification equivalent to MBCHB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
Be registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and possess a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
Have completed twelve (12) months of post-Community Service experience as a Medical Officer by the closing date of the advert.
Hold a valid driver’s license.
Have twelve (12) months of experience in General Surgery, including exposure to Emergency Department or other surgical disciplines (e.g., ENT, Urology, Orthopaedics). This experience must include completion of the FCSSA Primary examination and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

Participate actively in academic and teaching programs and meetings within the respective Department.
Provide comprehensive patient care at designated levels and sites, including but not limited to Outpatients, Wards, Theatres, and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
Manage patients under direct supervision, ensuring appropriate clinical decision-making and care plans.
Attend ward rounds and/or tutorials to support learning and patient management.
Supervise and teach undergraduate medical students, fostering their clinical development.
Provide after-hours care for emergency services as required.
Perform clerking (initial patient assessment and documentation) and maintain comprehensive, accurate records for each patient within the hospital file.
Engage in outreach activities as directed by the Clinical Supervisor.
Commit to personal development with the aim of achieving independent specialist practice within the chosen field of General Surgery.
