Maintenance Officer Position

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Officer to join our team at the Research Camp. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the terrain, gardens, and general infrastructure, ensuring the camp remains safe, functional, and well-presented.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain terrain and gardens through brush cutting and general landscaping.
• Perform routine maintenance on Research Camp buildings, fences, roads, water supply, and other infrastructure.
• Undertake minor electrical, plumbing, welding, and carpentry work as per capability.
• Carry out general painting tasks.
• Perform general cleaning duties including rubbish removal, cleaning fireplaces, braais, and surrounding areas.
• Ensure the neatness of Research Campgrounds and communal areas at all times.
• Clean vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
• Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices.
• Assist the Camp Supervisor with general cleaning of accommodations and communal areas when required.
• Assist with the collection of supplies when necessary.
• Assist with inventory counting.
• Record and report major maintenance issues to the Camp Supervisor.
• Perform any ad-hoc duties assigned by the Camp Supervisor.

Requirements

• Grade 12 Certificate (matric) or equivalent qualification.
• 1-2 years of practical experience in a maintenance field.
• Valid brush cutter certificate or demonstrated competency.
• Essential: Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Required: Machinery operating, literacy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Essential: Physically fit and capable of performing tasks like lifting, bending, gardening, and standing for extended periods.
• Essential: Self-motivated, good time management, responsible, and disciplined.
• Essential: Willingness to work weekends and public holidays.
• Essential: Valid and functional driver's license.
• Advantage: Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Advantage: First Aid Level 1 certification.
