Flight Operations Inspector – General Aviation Organisations (Centurion) at Civil Aviation Authority

Assessment, Inspectionsand oversight

• Evaluating and recommending on the issuance, amendment and renewal of Part 96 Operator Certificates and Part 93 Commercial Air Operator Certificates, along with associated operations specifications and the operator’s competence to exercise the certificate privileges.
• Evaluating and recommending on the issuance, amendment and renewal of Part 149 approvals, and the competence to continue exercising the approval holder’s privileges.
• Evaluating and recommending on the initial issuance or amendment of an air service license for Part 96 operators.
• Evaluating and recommending on the approval and acceptance of operators and organizations’ documentation.
• Conducting necessary inspections, oversight, and surveillance to determine safety standards and compliance.
• Conducting station facility, ramp, and base inspections of operators, and any other necessary inspections or checks to determine safety standards and compliance.
• Making recommendations concerning appropriate enforcement actions.
• Investigating and reporting, as required, on possible violations of South African civil aviation law, regulations, and technical standards.

Maintenance and Acquisition of Specialist Skills

• Keeping abreast of and well-informed on matters concerning the safe operation of aircraft and associated legal and policy matters.
• Being conversant with the area of specialization and seeking ways to keep abreast of developments in the role and associated tasks.

Proposals and Revision of Standards

• Proactively researching, developing, and proposing amendments to regulations, technical standards, and procedures to ensure safe aircraft operation.

Communications and Safety Promotion

• Projecting a satisfactory image of the SACAA to all stakeholders.
• Promoting aviation safety by participating in various forums and proposing improvements to aviation safety.

Requirements

• Minimum: Grade 12 Matric and a Commercial Pilot License.
• Ideal: Experience with commercial operation of aircraft; aviation safety officer experience; quality management experience; project management experience.

Experience

• 1000 Hours as pilot of civil or military aircraft.
