Assistant Director: Payroll

Job Type: Full‑time

Location: Gauteng

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, Higher National Certificate or National Certificate in Finance. Minimum 5 years relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role; 5 years experience in payroll or salary administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage PAYE processes and authorize deductions on manual payments.
  • Ensure IRP5 balances are correct and verify dates on exception reports.
  • Review recalculations for termination payments and authorize refunds or recoveries of PAYE.
  • Comply with SARS requirements and use correct Payment Reference Numbers (PRN).
  • Reconcile and submit monthly EMP201 and bi‑annual/EMP501 filings.
  • Process employer contributions, third‑party payments, debtor recoveries, and medical aid deductions.
  • Authorize garnishee and maintenance order payments and manage GEPF contributions.
  • Develop staff, coach and evaluate performance, and manage HR matters such as leave and recruitment.
  • Provide monthly payroll expenditure reports, variance analysis, and quarterly reports to STATS SA.
  • Monitor terminations, calculate leave credits, gratuities, and final payments, and approve related transactions.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit PERSAL reports to budget sections and GEPF.
